When Worry Becomes a Mountain
Finding Peace in Life’s Most Challenging Valleys
The weight of worry sits heavy on my shoulders these days. At the top of my list: my wife is 1,000 miles away in Madison, WI, serving as a caregiver for our son as he awaits a liver transplant.
The Agonizing Wait
The transplant waiting process is grueling. You never know when a donor will become available, nor whether the liver will be suitable. So you wait, caught in a limbo of hope and fear.
The emotional roller coaster of organ transplant waiting doesn’t just test patience—it tests faith.
The call comes in.. We found a donor. Elation! You rush to the hospital and get prepped for surgery. A sense of satisfaction sets in. Then the surgeon appears in the doorway of your waiting room, face downcast. “I’m sorry,” pursed lips, head tilted, and looking down, “the liver was not acceptable for transplant.” and out the door he goes.
And the process starts all over again:
- Elation
- Patience
- Surprise
- Shock
- Devastation
I’ve only experienced this on the telephone side. I can’t imagine confronting it face-to-face as my son and wife have had to do.
Perspective in Pain
I had other worries to share, but after writing this one, all mine pale in comparison. When life’s trials reach this magnitude, where do we turn?
The Only Answer That Matters
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God… and He will guard your hearts and minds.” Philippians 4:6-7
When the mountain of worry seems impossible to climb, there remains one path forward:
TURN IT OVER TO GOD
What burdens are you carrying today that need to be surrendered to Jesus, whose shoulders are strong enough to bear them? Leave your comments and we’ll pray for you.
