From Regret to Redemption: Why I Wrote The Awakening

There’s a moment that still echoes in my heart—one I wish I could redo.

Years ago, I had a chance to share my faith with my grandson. But I hesitated… and said nothing. That silence became a missed opportunity I’ve regretted ever since. In the quiet that followed, I opened my Bible and found these words:

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have… but do this with gentleness and respect.—1 Peter 3:15.

Those words became my compass.

This inspiration became a ten-year journey of writing The Awakening: The River Between Fear and Faith—a story shaped by failure, forged through faith, and carried by grace.

At its heart is Logan Murdock, a teen struggling under the weight of a fractured family, a harsh stepfather, and his own doubts. When he escapes into the Canadian wilderness, he encounters a mysterious figure—good ole Joe—and a chain of events that tests his courage, challenges his beliefs, and set him on a path toward something deeper.

It’s an adventure for young adults, but I believe its message speaks to anyone who’s wrestled with fear, has held fast to hope, or wondered where God was in the wilderness.
